Geographic features.The town of Razlog is located in the southwest part of Bulgaria, between Pirin, Rila and Rhodope mountains, the valley of Razlog is situated along the banks of Mesta River. To the south it is linked to Gotse Delchev Valley through Momina Klissura Gorge, While to the west it is passing into Predel Saddle.The Razlog Valley is the highest in soutern Bulgaria at an average altitude of 900 m. In its middle part the valley has tabular relief with slight slope on the eastern side of Rhodope. On the north it is Hillier and the parts of Rila that surround the valley are in typical Alpine appearance.Varied and attractive. The territory of the municipality comprises a large part of Pirin National Park /4508.5 ha/ and Rila National Park /5035.6 ha/. Prin National Park is included in the UNESCO convention for consetrvation of the worlds natural and cultural monuments since 1983. The territory of the park situated within the municipality includes Bulgaria largest biosphere reserve Bayuvi Dupki Djindjirica /2873 ha/, which has multiple historical sites, five centuries-old trees that have great value for the natural science, and diverse flora and fauna. The reserve is the only place in Bulgaria where edelweiss grows.Temperate continental with a slight Mediterranean influence penetrating through Mesta River Valley. Soft but longlasting winter and relatively short and cool summer are characteristic features for this area. The snow covers in the areas for winter recreation and ski sport lasts 150 days average. Northwest and west winds are dominant during the year, but during the winter season southwestern. Southeast of Bansko are remains of the late-medieval single-nave churches *St George* and *St Elijah*.Bansko is famous for its well-preserved traditions and culture, its original Revival-period architecture and its local culinary specialties /Banski shashlik, Banska kapama/. Visitors to this mountain town have always left it captivated by the spirit of Banskalii /Bansko residents/ wishing they could once again return to the heart of Pirin, to one with nature is something everyone craves for in their hurried everyday lives.
